Why Jude Bellingham’s performance against Manchester City is misunderstood.

Signed for €105m last summer, Jude Bellingham’s first season at Real Madrid has been nothing short of ridiculous. 20 years of age, in his first season at the biggest club in the world as €100m+ signing, with more pressure on his shoulders than there would be at any other club, no one would have faulted the Englishman if he took some time to acclimatize and find his footing, but that was not the case. 16 goals and 4 assists in LaLiga, 4 goals and 4 assists in the Champions League, Jude’s start to his career as Madridista has been incredible. Playing at the tip of a diamond as a roaming 10 who bombs into the box, Jude went from being seen as an incredible midfield prospect to being seen as one of the premier attackers in the world. While being seen as one of the best attackers in the world is always a good thing, it can also come with the certain downsides, downsides that were clear when people began to criticize his performances against Manchester City in the Champions League quarterfinals.

Due to his phenomenal goalscoring exploits this season, people seemed to have forgotten what type of player Jude really is, and the type of player he was at Dortmund that attracted Real Madrid enough to make him the club’s second most expensive signing ever. At Dortmund, Jude did not play as a free roaming, box crashing 10. In-fact, he did not even play as a classic 10. At Dortmund Jude played a deeper role, more akin to an 8 than a 10. Furthermore, Jude also played as a 6, or a deeper pivot at Dortmund in his first year at the club. In a recent interview, this is what he had to say about his role at the German club, and at Madrid now:

The reason behind Jude’s decision to wear the number 22 at Dortmund and Birmingham is also tied to his versatility as a midfielder. The number 22 is a summation of the 3 roles that he could and did play; the no.4, no.8 and no.10. The reasons behind Jude moving away from a deeper role were the circumstances at Real Madrid when he signed. The starting 9, Karim Benzema had just left the club, and there were no other attackers who naturally fit that role. As a result, the team switched from the classic 4-3-3 to a 4-3-1-2 diamond with Jude playing at the top of the diamond.

Now, to his performance against Manchester City, particularly the 2nd leg. In the 2nd leg against Manchester City, which was at the Etihad, Jude played the full 120 minutes and took and scored a penalty in the shootout. Of all players who played, Jude ran the most (15km) and won the second most duels (9). However, Jude’s performance drew criticism from both City fans and neutrals, and even small sections of the Madrid fanbase. Over the course of 2 legs, Jude did not score or assist once, and this was seen as a clear indication that he had poor games. This, however, could not be further from the truth, especially for the second-leg.

Winning 9/13 duels, completing 1/1 dribbles 3 clearances and 5 tackles, Jude had a performance that befitted his original playstyle. Playing as an all-action midfielder who played deeper and was tasked with breaking up play, Jude did exactly that. His frame and athleticism, combined with his excellent reading of the game make him a fantastic fit for such a role. Tasked with being the lead presser, and being a ball-winner, Jude was made to switch his style and he excelled. On set-pieces, Jude was even given the job of marking Haaland, and he was able to throw Haaland off every-time he marked him on a corner. If another midfielder who people perceive as an 8 or a 6 performed like that, it would be seen as a great defensive display. A tireless display against some of the best and most creative players in the world, Jude dropped a display that Fede Valverde described like this:

On top of all of this, Jude was also instrumental in the first goal. Receiving a long-pass from the back, Jude controlled the ball perfectly with a great touch, while stopping his momentum, which took him away from Rodri. Then, he proceeded to drop the shoulder and get past Ruben Dias, before releasing Vinícius down the line, after which Viní sent in the cross for Rodrygo’s goal. Jude played an instrumental role in the goal, and also slotted home his penalty in the shootout.

The performance that Jude displayed how versatile he really is. Changing his role from what he played for the most of the season, Jude showed that he can be an all-action midfielder that can put in a gritty, hardworking shift when his team needs him to. He also showed that not only can he play such a role, but he can excel in it as well.

Jude is not, and has never been, simply an attacker. He is one of the most versatile midfielders in the world, someone who can carry the ball and beat players, someone who can create and play amazing passes, and now someone who can also score at a rate that great strikers would be proud of. He is also a fantastic athlete, extremely hard-working, and a top-class ball winner. His performance against City showed exactly that. To judge him just based on one side of his game, when he’s as well-rounded as he is, is disingenuous. For Jude to truly have a poor game, his game needs to be poor on both sides, not just his attacking side. Against Manchester City, while he may not have had a fantastic performance, Bellingham still had a very good one.

After 7 years of a long-lasting saga, Kylian Mbappé will finally join Real Madrid this summer.

The French player announced a week ago through an official video that he will leave Paris Saint-Germain in the end of this season.

Now, him being officially announced as a Real Madrid player is only a matter of time, and it’s expected to happen as soon as the UEFA Champions League ends, around June 2nd.

It has also been kind of revealed in Mbappé’s documentary in BBC – that his next move will be Real Madrid.

Fabrizio Romano has said a few times that Mbappé’s arrival at Real Madrid will not be like any other & that the club will prepare something special for him. The announcement & the presentation will all be special.

And when we’re talking about the presentation, it looks like it will happen sooner than expected. According to MARCA, Real Madrid are planning to present Kylian Mbappé as an official player of the club ahead of EURO 2024.

Anyway, this will first require a request to Paris Saint-Germain – since officially, Mbappé is a player of the French Champions until June 30th.

Believing this will not be a problem after they officially announce the player, Real Madrid plan to present Kylian Mbappé between June 3rd & June 9th.

In case Real Madrid wins UEFA Champions League, the first week of June will be a busy week with celebrations at Real Madrid.

How Carlo Ancelotti waited for the perfect time to play Arda Güler

Not every story is the same when it comes to Real Madrid players – through the history of the club, but mostly in the recent history, a lot of players have joined the club, while not everyone has been successful.

Some have started their Real Madrid life in the best possible way, like Jude Bellingham. Others have had to sacrifice and wait for their chance while spending some seasons on the bench & as role players, like Vinicius Jr. or Fede Valverde or Rodrygo or many other examples, while some others failed to show their qualities at Real Madrid – like Eden Hazard or Luka Jovic, who joined the club with high expectations but never reached the potential or success they were expected to.

Many names have failed to live with the pressure at Real Madrid, but there were also players who could not stand to wait for their time – and decided to look for their chance elsewhere.

One player who didn’t start his Real Madrid life in a good way, was the talented Turkish teenager, Arda Güler – who joined this summer from Fenerbahçe, but had to be sidelined for the whole of 2023 with reoccurring injuries, three different ones that prevented him from showing his much talked qualities in the pitch.

Arda returned in January, but since then he has played a total of only 285 minutes for Real Madrid – leaving everyone questioning why Carlo Ancelotti is not giving more chance to him through some games.

But, as we talk on Arda Güler, we will write how we believe that Carlo managed the Turkish talent perfectly, waiting for the ideal time to start and include him in the right rhythm.

Being sidelined for a total of 6 months, it was clear that Arda Güler did not have the right physical condition – and above all didn’t have the right experience to play the very demanding matches from January to April, matches those that decided this season. When you look back at those matches, you can fully understand why the Italian coach choose to include Brahim or Joselu in the match ahead of Arda, who alongside the physical condition – would have the pressure of the world on his shoulders if he had to be on the pitch in season deciding matches.

Playing in high pressure matches, especially at this age after coming back from a 6 month injury, in most chances would lead to poor performances that could directly impact the player’s morale. Being a coach for over three decades, Carlo Ancelotti knew how to treat Arda Güler – and waited for the perfect moment to give him his share of minutes.

Arda Güler found his first goal at Real Madrid on March 2nd vs Celta Vigo at the Bernabeu, but it was late April when he started getting his chances – and he has delivered in the best possible way.

He scored Real Madrid’s winning goal vs Real Sociedad in a tough ground like Anoeta, while having a really good match three days later vs Cadiz at the Bernabeu. In the last two games, Arda played the first full 90 minutes vs Granda away scoring a goal, while in the 30 minutes vs Alaves last night, he scored another – finding his 4th goal in just 285 minutes, proving to everyone his qualities.

Carlo Ancelotti waited for the low pressure matches to give minutes to a guy who already had much pressure in his shoulders by the things that were being written in the media, and the rumours for a loan out – which would be shut down first by the Italian coach who confirmed that Arda is definitely staying at Real Madrid and they count on his abilities. With two matches left in La Liga, Arda is expected to get even more chances, to get used with the team and be prepared for EURO 2024 – and then what promises to be a big second year for him at Real Madrid.

With Luka Modric expected to leave this summer, Arda’s chances next summer are also expected to be much higher than this season. With every match, he is showing how much he is improving – and his versatility will be a very useful tool for Real Madrid in the near future and even further.

Carlo Ancelotti’s man management is amazing, and he is showing another example with the management of Arda Güler this season – who from starting the season in the worst possible way, is closing it in the best possible way. The best thing happening to the Turkish Boy, is the fact that Carlo will be his coach next season too.

Hoping for a big EURO 2024 & injuries worries leaving him alone, everyone is excited to see Arda’s bright future at Real Madrid. This boy is special.

Bayer Leverkusen is the team who has shocked everyone this season with their insane run in all competitions.

Lead by Real Madrid’s ex-player, Xabi Alonso, Bayer Leverkusen have been crowned Bundesliga Champions – while they have a chance at a treble as they will play the UEFA Europa League & DFB Pokal final.

All this, while not losing a single game.

In Xabi Alonso’s side – the best player has been Florian Wirtz, a player who also has a shout to win Ballon d’Or after his unbelievable season with the German Champions.

A news that will make all Real Madrid fans excited, is that this duo – Xabi Alonso & Florian Wirtz, have an idea which is to move TOGETHER to Real Madrid in 2025, according to Christian Falk.

Wirtz is one of the best midfielders in the world, and with Toni Kroos & Luka Modric leaving it would make sense seeing him join Real Madrid next year, together with Xabi Alonso who is most expected to replace Carlo Ancelotti as the coach of the team at Santiago Bernabeu.

Different sources have also confirmed Real Madrid’s interest in Florian Wirtz for 2025 – and the duo joining Real Madrid together wouldn’t be something impossible.

First – 2024 summer awaits us, and then we start talking about 2025. But this was such a big information, that it couldn’t be ignored.

Arda Güler is just starting to come into play with Real Madrid – as he has scored 3 goals in only 3 La Liga starts, or translated into 255 minutes in total.

Scoring every 85 minutes he is one the pitch with Real Madrid, the Turkish 19-year old has left past the worries of the injuries – and is starting to get into rhythm with the club.

Güler has started the last three La Liga matches with the club, against Real Sociedad, Cadiz & Granada, while he will also get minutes in tonight’s clash with Alaves but also the remaining league matches ahead of the final.

It is already confirmed that Arda will continue at Real Madrid next season, and that the coaching staff has full trust in his abilities.

In his limited minutes this season, Güler has given us glimpses of his qualities – showing he is really good in creating plays, as much as he is good in dribbling, finding the right space and finishing.

But, according to Diario AS, at Real Madrid they believe that Arda Güler can turn into a great midfielder. They see the Turkish player everyday in training, and has seen all the potential in him to be a midfield great in the upcoming decade.

Working with legends like Luka Modric & Toni Kroos is slowly shaping him into a really good player, and with their years coming to an end – Real Madrid coaching staff believe that Arda Güler is the ideal replacement for Luka Modric when he leaves the club.

The future seems to be holding a special place for the 19-year old at Real Madrid, who is just getting started at the best club in the world.
